I am Marina - A New Author on PetLvr!

My name is Marina, and I’m a new author on the “LVR” series of blogs. You can find my author page here. I have three cats and two dogs, which definitely help make life more interesting and enjoyable. Lily, Bella and Oliver are a family of cats that I rescued and Paisley and Sebastian are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Here on PetLvr, I’ll be blogging about pets in the news, pet agility shows and celebrity pets. But first I’d like to introduce my pets and myself in more detail.

I recently graduated from Youngstown State University and received a degree in Professional Writing and Editing. I own a writing and editing business called Cat’s Eye Editing, LLC. I’m passionate about environmental issues as well as animal rights, and I would like to try to make a difference with my writing. I definitely believe that the way people treat animals is a reflection of their character.

A Shout Out For The Animal Victims of Peru Earthquake

I receive many emails every day requesting reciprocal linking .. but when I received an email request from Ladyhawke Catherine … I thought I could do little more. There are many volunteers trying hard to get the word out about the situation in Peru for the animals affected by the recent earthquake last month .. to get more aide and support to the agencies working there. Please watch the video below and check out the links at the end of this post.

Thank-You.

From the YouTube description:

On August 16, 2007 a magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit the coast of Peru, killing hundreds and leaving thousands homeless. Countless animals have been affected by this disaster and foreign aid has been slow to arrive. A small group of trained American animal rescuers are coordinating relief efforts with the Peruvian animal rescue groups. More help is desperately needed. IAMS Newsletter: P&G Pet Care Update on Menu Foods Recall

P&G Pet Care Update on Menu Foods Recall

P&G Pet Care Update

April 6, 2007

Dear Consumer:

As promised, we are continuing to keep you updated on the Menu Foods recall.

On April 5, 2007, Menu Foods amended its cuts-and-gravy pet food recall to include food manufactured beginning November 8, 2006.

No new Iams or Eukanuba products have been added to the recall list. In accordance with Menu Foods’ amendment, P&G Pet Care has amended the voluntary recall dates in the United States and Canada on previously recalled Iams and Eukanuba canned and foil pouch “wet” cuts-and-gravy-style cat and dog food products manufactured by the affected Menu Foods plant. The amended code dates are 6312 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197.

No Iams or Eukanuba dry pet food products have been affected by the Menu Foods recall or this amended Menu Foods recall. P&G Pet Care already implemented a full voluntary recall of the affected wet products from store shelves in the U.S. and Canada. As a result of these precautionary measures, all the dry and wet pet foods that P&G Pet Care continues to sell do not contain wheat gluten ingredients from any supplier.

For a complete list of affected products, go to the Menu Foods Web site at: www.menufoods.com/recall

We want to stress again that you can confidently feed all of your pets any of our dry foods, as well as the wet foods not affected by the Menu Foods recall. If you have any questions about the recalled products, please click here to see the specific list of recalled wet pouch and canned products.

P&G Pet Care is deeply committed to pet well-being and our top priority is to help you care for your dog and cat family members. We will continue to provide you with meaningful updates. If you have additional questions, not answered on our Web site FAQs, please call us at 1-800-882-1591.

Parrot Talk More Clever Than Thought

Parrot Talk More Clever Than Thought

Jennifer Viegas, Discovery News

Jan. 17, 2007 — A precocious parrot shows off his English skills.
….

There may be more to parrot talk than simple mimicry, suggests the behavior of one precocious bird.

For the first time, a grey parrot has demonstrated that he can imitate what he sees and hears — demonstrating a more complex understanding of his environment than that needed for mimicry — according to a study in the current issue of Language Sciences.

Fur Color Linked to Dog Personality

Fur Color Linked to Dog Personality

Dec. 13, 2006 — The color of a dog’s fur may seem to be just a whim of nature and genetics that reveals little about the dog. But a new study claims that coat color for at least one breed, the English cocker spaniel, reflects a pooch’s personality.

Prior research has suggested that fur color is also linked to behavior in labrador retrievers, while the type of fur — in this case, wiry or long — may indicate temperament in miniature dachshunds. Wiry-haired mini dachshunds are often more feisty than their mellower, long-haired cousins.

Exotic Pet Trade Booming in U.S.

Nov. 27, 2006 — Exotic animals captured in the wild are streaming across the U.S. border by the millions with little or no screening for disease, leaving Americans vulnerable to a virulent outbreak that could rival a terrorist act.

Demand for such wildlife is booming as parents try to get their kids the latest pets fancied by Hollywood stars and zoos seek to fill their cages.
