When you think about it, pet sports are similar to the sports held at the Olympics. For instance, flyball for dogs is like hurdling for the Olympians and freestyle for dogs can be likened to gymnastics. If Olympians can do it, so can their pets. So who are the pets behind the Olympians?

Update On The PANDAS That Survived The China Earthquake In May 2008

On May 12, 2008 the “2008 Sichuan earthquake” (or Great Wenchuan Earthquake) reached 7.9 on the richter scale with a death count about 70,000, injured about 350,000 people and left about 4.8 million people homeless. In the middle of the earthquake are is the Wolong National Nature Reserve, which houses about 150 highly endangered Giant Pandas. There was at least one death of a giant panda (nine-year-old Mao Mao, a mother of five at the breeding centre, was discovered crushed by a wall in her enclosure). One-Dog Policy for China’s Capital

Nov. 8, 2006 — First it was one child. Now authorities say Beijing families will be allowed only one dog.

The restriction is part of efforts to stamp out rabies, state media said Wednesday. It follows a campaign in August in which thousands of dogs were killed in order to fight the disease.

Playful Pandas
A pair of panda cubs play at the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base in the Sichuan province of western China. Twenty-five pandas were born through artificial insemination this year, of which 21 survived. This is more than double the number of pandas born through artificial insemination in 2004.
