i hate da fleaDuring fall you might think you don’t have to worry about fleas, but this assumption is wrong. Recently, Dr. Susan Nelson of Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine explained in a news interview that the fall has the best weather for fleas because of the rain and mild temperatures. If you have experienced a home invasion of fleas, you know that it’s easier to prevent the invasion than to get rid of it.

States like California, which don’t reach cold temperatures during the winter, are conducive environments for fleas to live in all year round. Pets can get fleas not only from walking outside but also from sitting next to the screen door or window.

Animals are the ninth-ranked cause of driver distraction according to the analysis presented in California’s new legislation, which attempts to eliminate driver distraction. Carting your pets around with you while you run errands might be a way of life for you and your pet, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, California is being proactive by making it illegal for drivers to allow pets on their lap while operating a motor vehicle. While this may seem harsh, it’s really about the safety of you, your pet and other drivers on the road.

It can be distracting when your pet is jumping back and forth from the back seat to the front seat. Maybe your dog sits on your lap and puts its head out the window and barks at the cars whizzing by. Either way, it’s not the safest situation. Regardless of whether you live in California, there are ways that you can protect you and your pet on your next car trip.

There are six categories (Cutest Dog, Best Trick, Best Voice, Owner Look-a-Like, Most Outrageous and Best Dressed) in which you can enter your dog. Once you upload the most impressive video of your pet, people will have the chance to vote for your dog. Six Finalists will win a trip for two plus the pet to Los Angeles, California and will appear in the 2008 Worldwide Fido Award special. Also a $20,000 grand prize will be awarded.
