I am in the process of updating this blog from wordpress version 2.2.2 to the latest wordpress version 2.3.1

Although, it may not seem like a big change … it is. I hope to display some of the tagging features available to the new version and finally display a “Tag-Cloud” in my sidebar. However, most importantly I will be trying to cut back from about 58 activated plugins down to 23 plugins …

So - please bear with me if there seems to a white screen or errors. I will make another post once my update is complete.

Hi.

Just a short and quick notice … I haven’t been posting since Tuesday and will not be posting anywhere around the HART-Empire Network .. until Monday November 12, 2007. There was an accident in the immediate family this week .. and a whole bunch of deadlines has suddenly been pushed forward. As a result .. it’s been hard for me to find time for any blog maintenance. Hopefully, this post will be enough of a notice.

UPDATE

At 11:31pm CST October 28, 2007 .. the HART-Empire-Network server crashed. During this very moment, certain requests were being made from this blog and created a situation that corrupted the blog. I have now repaired the errors - I hope - and we are back online at 7:00am October 29, 2007.

If you see anything kooky happening this morning, please leave a comment in this post to let me know - otherwise .. well, I could be responsible for that as I am reviewing what happened!

I have installed a multi-user wordpress version at the following location, and invite anybody who wishes to create a FREE pet related blog. I have replaced one of the old links on the top button menu and added a new [MyPet] button to access. There is also a link below the heading as well. Feel free to create your own blog!

At this point in time, I have limited disk space to 20MB per account, which should be enough to load as many smaller net-sized photos of your pet. If you really need more space, I have a dedicated server and tons of domains and should be able to accomodate you somehow, if you need it - just ask.

The dedicated server will be offline in a few moments, as we add some memory chips to the physical dedicated server.

We shouldn’t be long - but, for those of you reading this in your RSS feed reader - at least you will know why we are offline again .. it’s planned!

Short and Sweet Version:

I was supposed to be upgraded to a Dedicated Server August 1st. The migration team never got around to it until August 7th. They inadvertently omitted this site and domain in their migration. The nameservers and DNS kicked in. There was no site for this domain to “kick in” to. I was at the mercy of tech support’s migration department. The site was down for the past couple of days. My apologies.

BUT - Now the Good News.

I’m mentioned before that I was upgrading to a dedicated server from my last upgrade to a Virtual Private Server (VPS) on August 1, 2007 … well ,,

* That hasn’t happened yet.

I feel like an idiot. But .. when my provider tells me that they will be migrating my sites “shortly” .. or “tonight” .. or “it’s in progress” … I assume the next day, when I notice that my sites are down, that the reason was because the migration took longer than they planned, or - are still in progress. As such, I have been just shutting off my computer in the morning and enjoying my summer vacation.

But - the reason my sites were down (like, last night for the past 9 hours or so) .. was because of the reason that I am forced to upgrade to a dedicated server in the first place! The VPS cannot handly all the CPU and system resources that all of my blogs in the HART-Empire Network is using. That’s the reason why my sites were down. The VPS killed certain resources and that stops the internet from recognizing my sites.

On June 8th, I upgraded and combined two separate hosting packages into one larger Virtual Private Server (VPS) account. Apparently, because of all my blogs and what-have-me .. some CPU resources and other system resources are periodically reaching black levels for a micro-second. And, when that micro-second happens, the VPS system kills some resources to compensate.

Occassionally, if you come by and notice that the “Default Kubrick” template is appearing on the blog - that is a side effect of this winking out problem of certain resources, and the system reboots the blog and MySQL database and options at the default template theme for some reason.

The good news .. is that I will be upgrading AGAIN - on August 1, 2007 - to a full dedicated server and this shouldn’t happen again. Firstly, because the resources should be adequately available to cover the needs of my network on a dedicated server .. and Secondly .. because when I get around to it - I’m going to put the main template versions into the DEFAULT folder on my system .. just incase it ever needs to default to the default ever again - it will default to the latest template!

I kind of documented it over on HART-Empire Blog if curious .. and although I won’t exactly call this a slowdown period until the upgrade .. I will not actively be trying to generate a whole bunch of new traffic and excessive postings which might halt the system resources to go from green to black and kill certain activities on this network.

PS… the move will mostly occur behind the scenes, and there should be no downtime on August 1. *knock on wood*
