Rescue Pets

Over the last week, emotions have run high for the Montgomery County Animal Shelter, which provides a home for an average of 3,000 pets every month. Shelters have been banning together to rescue animals abandoned and homeless from the hurricanes, but they cannot continue their efforts without the help from the public. Shelters have limited space to care for animals, and if the animals are not adopted, they have to be put down. However, Brazos Valley residents stepped in and helped adopt the rescued animals.

During the next week, the Montgomery County Animal Shelter is expecting to receive hundreds of more animals from Galveston and Houston. These pets go through a traumatic experience, and it doesn’t end when they reach a shelter. It’s up to individuals and families to adopt these animals, so they don’t become euthanized.

Helping Pets Affected by Foreclosure

Gas, food and living expenses have increased significantly — so much so that some people are unable to pay their mortgage and are now facing foreclosure. What makes the situation even more heartbreaking is the fact that some people cannot afford to take care of their pets or even take their pets with them to their new home. Moving from a house to an apartment is an adjustment and not all apartment complexes welcome pets. It’s estimated that an approximate 1.4 million additional homeowners will experience foreclosure during 2008. While this is a difficult position for homeowners to be in, there are ways to reduce the stress on the family pet.

150139 Rhama

150139_rhama.JPG
Rhama is a sweet, special dog who is in need of an owner who will show her some real love. She is a 2 year old Rottweiler cross who loves attention and knows the commands “sit” and “down”. She was turned over to the Humane Society because she doesn’t get along with small dogs and cats, but she will make a wonderful pet for someone who wants an energetic girl who listens well. She will be great in a home with children over 8, and would really blossom with obedience classes. Adoption fee includes spay, first set of shots, 6 weeks of pet insurance and more. Come down and meet this special dog today, you will be making a friend for life!

150434 Mister

150434_mister.JPG
This guy is a real looker! Mister came to The Winnipeg Humane Society as a stray cat and was lucky enough to avoid the winter. His time on the street did not hamper his love for affection, so be ready to pet and play. Mister is a big guy and can get carried away, so he is best in a house with no small children. He seems to get along with other cats and it will be a real treat to brush his long beautiful hair. $79 to adopt a friend for life! Adoption fee includes neuter, first set of shots ID tattoo and more. Please consider taking home Mister and giving him a warm home full of love.

Kharma, 128442

128442-kharma.jpg
Need some good vibes? Kharma’s sure to bring you good fortune! Stray, Kharma came to us in a livetrap after being caught in Transcona at the beginning of September. Really stressed in the shelter, we sent him to a foster home where he’s been thriving! Kharma is great with other cats (living with several right now) & would love to find a permanent residence. Please call the Foster Dep’t at 982-2049 for more info or to arrange a visit of this lovely boy! As a longterm resident, his fee is only $48.06 & includes his neuter, vet exam, pet insurance & more!

Harley, 112094

112094-harley.jpg
Harley is a really fun dog, very affectionate & she leans in to be patted. This sweet girl was not getting along with the other dog in her home- she seems to like them, but is probably best as the only K9 in the house. Only ~1.5 years old, she’s quite active & frisky! This pretty Lab/Boxer mix needs a good home- she’s been here too long for such a good dog. Best suited to kids 10yrs+ as she can be a bit bouncy when she’s excited. $159.00 fee includes her vet exam, pet insurance, microchip & more!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

Ringer, 125497

125497-ringer.jpg
Ringer is a very sweet girl found stray in Whyte Ridge. She’d been living in the area & was found on someone’s front steps and brought to us. We weren’t able to find her owner, but we’re hoping we can find her a new one! She seems to have a skin condition that is easily controlled through diet, so Ringer requires a hypo allergenic food to stay healthy- price is equivalent to a good quality cat food. As a longterm resident, her fee is 50% off, only $48.06 and still includes her spay, microchip, 14-day health period, pet insurance & more! We have many more cats & kittens for adoption!

Lucky, 66872

066872-lucky.jpg
Help make Lucky’s day a lucky one by making him a family member! This sweet Dalmatian was originally brought to us as a stray in 2002, then again returned to us September 29/06 due to a lifestyle change on the part of his owner. Lucky likes other dogs, is a friendly 7 playful pooch and we expect him to be good with kids 8yrs+, as he’s still learning good manners. This handsome ~5 years old needs a good home! $159.00 adoption fee includes pet insurance, microchip, behaviour evaluation & more!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

Meadow, 127829

127829-meadow.jpg
Meadow is a terrific cat who deserves a terrific owner. She came to us in rough shape- scabby, old wound to her eye. Meadow has since healed up well. As she came in with another cat, so we imagine she’d be great in a home with another cat, after a proper introduction of course. Please consider adopting Meadow, or one of our other adoptable cats during our promotion! Promo fee includes all regular package perks except our 2-week health period.

Sparky, 127748

127748-sparky-2.jpg
Sparky is sparkling with personality! This wonderful, ~5 year old Blue Heeler/Terrier mix is fantastic on leash and has been a terrific ambassador to seniors’ homes on visits. She was brought to us this summer after her owner left her behind with a friend but didn’t return for her. She was pregnant & confused. Thankfully a wonderful foster family helped her raise her puppies & now Sparky now needs a home. She is most comfortable with adults (teens ~15yrs+) & should go to someone comfortable with confident dogs. $159.00 fee includes her spay, vet exam, pet insurance & much more!

Granger & Sparky, 129018, 129019

129018-granger-129019-sparky.jpg
These two best buddies are looking for a quiet retirement home in which to spend the rest of their days. Their owner died and his wife was not able to keep them in the home. Granger & Sparky are typical, small elderly dogs- quiet, well mannered & undemanding. They do have your average older dog-type health issues; lumps & bumps, some cataracts, stiff joints, but these two definitely have a lot of love to give & deserve a second chance. They are 12 and 14 years old, both males & both good on leash. Sparky was a good boy for his grooming. Please consider Sparky & Granger if you’re looking for “double love”! $86.12 adoption fee for both dogs includes pet insurance, vet exam.

Milo, 92935

092935-milo.jpg
Milo is a beautiful female (yes, despite the name, Milo’s a girl!) 3 year old cat who came from a household with other cats. Milo is a friendly, well adjusted cat who did well in a foster home. Milo likes other cats. She has been with us since the end of July- too long for such a lovely lady!- and we’d love to see her leave to a great home. Please consider adopting Milo at her reduced adoption fee of only $48.06 which includes her vet exam, vaccine, pet insurance & much more!

Oates, 127157

127157-oates.jpg
Oates is a gentle giant, a ~4-year-old neutered male Great Pyrenees/Collie mix who needs a home badly- he is too sad here & longs for human companionship than we cannot provide in a shelter setting. He was found stray in August & despite being a friendly, well behaved & sweet pooch, was not claimed- he had no ID. He is housebroken & knows some commands. He is easy to walk on leash & seems good with other dogs. Once he settles in & bonds with his new family, he is going to be a terrific dog.

Violet, 123063

123063-violet.jpg
Roses are red, violets are blue, she needs a new owner- how about you? Violet is as sweet as a rose & has been with us far too long after being abandoned by her owner on Alfred Avenue. She is apparently great with dogs! She was found with another cat & did very well in her foster home. As a longterm cat available for adoption, her fee is reduced by 50% to only $48.06.
