Jackson, 133218

133218-jackson.jpg
Action Jackson is looking for love in all the wrong places! Found on Arlington & Portage as a stray without ID, this big puppy at heart (~<1 year old) likes other dogs & really needs a leader in his life to show him the ropes. A very typical Shepherd, he has a big bark & lots of love to give. We’re confident he’s going to be a good watchdog for his owner. Jackson will benefit from obedience classes for manners & socializing with other dogs & people. Help make the holidays happy for Jackson! $159.00 adoption fee includes neuter, vet exam, vaccine, microchip & more!

Prairie Dawn, 127619

127619-prairie-dawn1.jpg
Prairie Dawn has been patiently awaiting adoption since August 18 when she came in as a stray with two kittens from Tyndall Park. She was timid & gentle and did well in foster care. After many weeks at the main shelter without any luck, we’ve sent her over to Best West St. James to hopefully find a home in time for the holidays. As a longterm kitty, her adoption fee is only $48.06 & includes her spay, tattoo, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance & more! Santa, bring this kitty a home!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

Squire, 130310

130310-squire.jpg
Retirement home needed for sweet older dog! This golden oldie was found stray on Arlington & Magnus back on October 4. He’s been treated for an ear infection & while he’s comfortable here, Squire really looks forward to being able to lounge on someone’s living room floor, happily munching at his chewies he so enjoys. Squire is a tall, ~50lb ShepherdX, ~10 years old & as placid & calm as they come. Needs a quieter & stable home, his $69.00 adoption fee includes 6 weeks of pet insurance, vet exam, vaccine, behaviour evaluation & more!

Ripley, 114484

114484-ripley.jpg
Believe it or not, Ripley still needs a home! This handsome boy was brought to us when the owner did not have money for his vet visit. Ripley is used to being with other cats but requires time to get acquainted. At just over 5 years old, his life has just begun! Ripley has some history of urinary tract issues so requires a vet-quality urinary food to prevent future problems from occurring (food price roughly equivalent to good quality regular cat food). He loves to be patted & is a charmer once he knows you. $48.06 to adopt includes his vet exam, 6 weeks of pet insurance & more!

Shiloh, 130609

130609-shilo.jpg
Shiloh is a highly intelligent Shepherd seeking a home where she has a job to do, she is one smart dog! 3.5 years of age, she was surrendered due to her owner being unable to provide adequate conditions for her. She has many working-dog characteristics- she is very loyal & always seeking her next cue. She has a history of being good with other dogs & cats & is best suited to someone who has time for this girl. Shiloh bonds quickly & needs a ‘forever home’. $159.00 adoption fee includes her spay, microchip, tattoo, pet insurance & more!!

132174-baby-105497-snowball.jpg
Looking to grow your family? Help is on the way in the form of Snowball & Baby! Don’t consider pets Christmas gifts: shelter

RICH from Dog Names and More Blog made an excellent comment today about Christmas and giving pets as Christmas gifts … Good advice and Thanks Rich!

And .. it also provides me with a great lead-in to an article published in today’s Winnipeg Sun, here in Winnipeg, about this very issue .. with words of wisdom from Alix Sobler, spokesperson for the Winnipeg Humane Society

Gracie, 90244

090244-gracie1.jpg
Looks, brains, she’s got it all…This beautiful ~3 year-old spayed female has been with us for too long! For almost 3 months we’ve been trying to place Gracie (~45 pounds) into a good home. Gracie does need to be the only pet in her home- she’s smart & active enough that she’ll keep you busy! She is incredibly smart & focused, very affectionate & very playful (loves her ball), is good on leash & has lots of potential. Gracie is overall not very dog-friendly and requires a fenced yard for her safety. Longterm adoption fee of $88.06 includes her spay, tattoo, microchip, vet exam & much more!

Jellybean, 129137

129137-jelly-bean.jpg
Get smitten by this kitten! She is one lucky girl who came into the shelter very ill (after being handled by someone with human lice medication on their hands)- the result was very serious, Jellybean almost didn’t make it. To look at her today you’d never know how close she came… now she needs a permanent home after recovering in foster care. Only ~6 months old, she’s been through a lot & deserves good things. $79.00 adoption fee includes her spay, vet exam, 14-day health period, pet insurance & much more!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

Casey, 131015

131015-casey.jpg
Casey is a charming pup who loves other dogs! She is very exuberant & we’re still working on her manners so right now she’s best for kids 10yrs+ until she learns. She loves to play & run & is quite active but also settles well after exercise. Casey was found with another dog and while he was claimed by his owner, Casey was not. She needs a great home & has good family potential! Casey’s adoption fee of $159.00 includes her spay, heartworm test, vet exam, pet insurance & much more!

Princess, 126747

126747-princess.jpg
Found living under stairs in the north end in the middle of July, Princess was thin & nursing kittens and had a very large hernia which required repair. They were covered in fleas & desperately needed some TLC. Thankfully for our foster families, Princess was able to recover in a home setting. This very special, lucky kitty deserves a wonderful home. As a longterm cat, her adoption fee is reduced and is only $48.06; includes her spay, microchip, 14-days after care & much more!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas

A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas

By S. Roberts

Every year, around Christmas time the RSPCA make appeals to everyone to think before buying a puppy or any other pet as a Christmas present. The RSPCA’s message is “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas”. This prompt is to make people think, and to consider the implications of owning a pet.

It is a wonderful experience to see your child’s face light up when you present them with an adorable puppy. There’s no getting away from that, however it doesn’t last very long and it is only one side of the coin.

Kharma, 128442

128442-kharma.jpg
Need some good vibes? Kharma’s sure to bring you good fortune! Stray, Kharma came to us in a livetrap after being caught in Transcona at the beginning of September. Really stressed in the shelter, we sent him to a foster home where he’s been thriving! Kharma is great with other cats (living with several right now) & would love to find a permanent residence. Please call the Foster Dep’t at 982-2049 for more info or to arrange a visit of this lovely boy! As a longterm resident, his fee is only $48.06 & includes his neuter, vet exam, pet insurance & more!

Harley, 112094

112094-harley.jpg
Harley is a really fun dog, very affectionate & she leans in to be patted. This sweet girl was not getting along with the other dog in her home- she seems to like them, but is probably best as the only K9 in the house. Only ~1.5 years old, she’s quite active & frisky! This pretty Lab/Boxer mix needs a good home- she’s been here too long for such a good dog. Best suited to kids 10yrs+ as she can be a bit bouncy when she’s excited. $159.00 fee includes her vet exam, pet insurance, microchip & more!

Did you know? All cat & dog adoption fees include spay or neuter, microchip, 6 weeks of pet insurance, vaccine & much more!

Groups across country aiding Mason animal shelter

POINT PLEASANT — Animal rescuers from as far away as Maine will be in Mason County this weekend to pick up more than 60 animals left shelterless following a fire at the county’s animal shelter that killed 32 dogs and cats.

Nineteen cats and between four and six dogs died in the fire, said Susan Potter, with You’re Hounding Me Rescue, an animal rescue shelter in East Hartford, Conn., that is helping to find homes for the displaced animals that survived.
