Grooming Your Dog At Home
By Caninecoalition.com
Your pets, especially dogs, play a vital emotional role in your life. You love them so much and want to treat them as one of your best friends that you spend some of your spare time playing with them. But what if your dog is not actually doing what you want him to do? What if he is not looking as good as he should be?
Herein lies the need for grooming your dog. More or less all pets, including dogs, require grooming. Pet groomers are easily available anywhere; some of them are cheap and some are very costly. You may not want to visit a cheap groomer, but you may not also be able to afford the costly ones. What is the solution then? Well, a better idea is to do it yourself. It’s not very hard to groom your dog yourself, but you should practice this right from the start. And to do that you must follow some guidelines:

How to Groom a Horse and Why
By Jennifer Allbright
Grooming a horse safely and correctly is a very important part of daily horse care. It is a great time to check over the horse for any issues on his skin, back, and girth area and to get an idea of how the horse is feeling that day. You should groom a horse before you take it out for riding or exercising. It helps keep them healthy and looking good.
First, halter and tie the horse to a ring or safety string attached to something solid. If the horse pulls back, you don’t want the horse’s halter tied to something that will swing or be pulled out of the ground. A ring on a wall meant for tying or a solid fence post often works well. You can also use cross-ties if you have two rings and cross-ties.

Training Your Dog To Be Groomed
By Michael Russell
Grooming can be a pleasure for the dog and owner, or it can be a nightmare. A dog must be taught to be groomed and this is not always an easy prospect. Of course you would be much better off to start with a young puppy so that it becomes used to being groomed early on, but unfortunately this can not always be the case. Dogs who are older and are placed in adoptive homes from shelters, for example, may not have gotten used to this process at an early age.
Many owners will ignore the grooming when they find out that they can’t control the dog to do it. (Or they will spend big bucks with a groomer). However, it is very important that a dog with a long coat or a double coat be groomed on a regular basis. The coat that has mats can block air from getting to the skin, causing hot spots. A dog that is not groomed is not pleasant to be around, it will either be smelly or it will drip shedding hair off onto the furniture or your clothes. Sometimes this is one of the reasons some dogs are banished to live outside rather than in the home! Furthermore, grooming the dog on a regular basis will stimulate the skin and keep the dog healthier, in the same way that a human must wash the scalp and brush the hair to maintain a healthy scalp.

Short Haired Dog Breeds - Oh the Advantages!
By Ann Born
Short-haired dog breeds have many advantages over long-haired breeds. One of these is that short-haired dog breeds do not shed as much hair. While a shaggier coat makes a dog look fluffier and aesthetically more pleasing, it should be remembered that more hair means more time spent on bathing and grooming. Short-hairs are also good because pests can not hide on them very well, so they are better from a hygienic point of view.
Here are some grooming tips for short-haired dog breeds.

Grooming Yorkies
By Rachael Taylor
Grooming is very important for yorkies. Whether your yorkie has a long or short coat, a regular grooming schedule is a must. Yorkies with long coats should be groomed daily. That fine hair of theirs will become tangled and matted in no time. Yorkies with short coats can go longer between grooming sessions.
If daily brushing and combing your yorkie is not your cup of tea, consider a shorter cut. I keep my yorkie cut fairly short as she does not enjoy being groomed and therefore grooming her is not fun for me. My little Yorkshire terrier is not much of a princess. She does not sit around looking glamorous. She is very much a tomboy and a shorter cut fits her personality as well.
