Welcome to our 2,000th Post

It’s true .. this is our 2,000th blog entry here at PetLvr.com - [The Blog] and you can verify it by clicking on this link … http://PetLvr.com/blog/?p=2000 .. although, I should warn you that it really may not be an accurate count. While this is the 2000th post created by my wordpress blog - it IS possible that I might have deleted a post or two during our travels (for instance if a duplicate was found). So, if this is really my 1,998th post or not .. I’ll leave it up to my groupies to check the ARCHIVES at the top menu and count the posts manually!

I thought that for this “milestone” post, I would point out a few things around [The Blog]. I’m sure you were wondering what it’s all about! This post is pretty much a duplicate copy of our 1,000th Post Online (January 26, 2006) .. but I thought it would work well again - on our 2,000th Post (October 24, 2006)

I am your host here, and have been the one doing most of the posting. I hope you find the information interesting.

There’s more about my philosophy of this blog in the “ABOUT” page. While, yes, it is my website and I do most of the blogging, I feel that this blog is for the greater good - for ALL EARTHLINGS who loves animals - by having a community sense of blogging information. We have co-contributors of blog information, and I have been posting many articles from various sources and authors about many topics. There are DEFINATELY duplicate topics in here, because I believe that you shouldn’t have to rely on one rigid thinking that your pet will follow a simple set of written rules and directions by someone, who has never even seen your pet or know what you and your pet is all about. If you have many viewpoints, suggestions and opinions in front of you .. I think you are intelligent enough and love your pet enough to try and take that information and use it to the best of both you and your pets to make this world (this is the part you should bring out the kleenex box) .. make this world a better place just by having pets and making out lives richer being with out pets!

Aren’t they cute? I’ve been trying to post pictures when I can on THEIR blog .. PapillonLvr.com/blog/ but as many as I have (about 50 in every possible pose each!) I probably should be posting more often if I could! I sometimes post their pictures in this blog, but not that often.

* WE DO CATEGORIZE OUR POSTS HERE!

You may have notice that at the top of every post, it says.. “Filed under:” - this is our way of categorizing each post so if you are looking for similar posts, they are all sorted out together. In our case, because we have a lot of categories, I placed them all in a drop down menu, as seen above and in our sidebar. All you have to do is browse, select a topic, and you will jump directly to the pages that have only that related topic.

* OUR PETLVR SEARCH WORKS GREAT!

If you are looking for a particular topic, try our search field. Believe it or not, I do go into my stats and review what people are searching for, so if I see something being searched a lot, I will try to get that information and put it back into the blog! So, not only is this search field here to help you find the information you want, it also helps me find the information that you wanted, but couldn’t find.

* THESE ARE THE NAVIGATION LINKS

If we let 100% of the posts show up on our main page or in our search results, the side scrolling bar would be too tiny for you to grab and scroll the page! Naturally, we can only show a certain amount of posts - but the posts are still there! All you have to do is click on the NEXT PAGE to get the previous page of posts and PREVIOUS PAGE to go back to the new page of posts .. Ya - I know - sounds silly, eh? You see, you are going to NEXT PAGE as you dwelve deeper into the archives!

* PRINT ANY ARTICLE

On every post, to make it easier for you to re-print just the text and forget all about the graphics and spacing issues, all you have to do is click on the above link at the top of each post. A new page will be displayed, and at the BOTTOM there is an easy link to just click - and it prints.

* OUR TOP MENU BAR ..

When I mentioned ‘Top Menu Button’s, I meant from the link on the top menu bar as displayed above. Lots of goodies there! Have you tried our FREE Greeting E-Cards? It’s a simple script I am using. What I did was place some standard pictures from our PetLvr Gallery, and added a few .mp3 and sounds .. If you wanted to send people a customized E-Card, I am willing to upload your picture and/or .mp3 just to accomodate.. how cool is that?

* OUR TOP MENU LOGO GRAPHIC

Some people didn’t know this, but it doesn’t matter on what page you are viewing .. if you click on the graphic, you will go to the MAIN / START / HOME page of the blog, to this root location PetLvr.com/blog/ .. I don’t understand why other sites do not offer this simple feature to make it easier to navigate back home. It’s almost as useful as the BACK and FORWARD buttons!

Pooches in Pictures; How Hollywood Influences the Dogs We Bring Home

No actor wants to share the stage with a dog, for he will undoubtedly be upstaged. It’s all but impossible to watch a dog movie without falling head over heels into puppy love. Consider Mom, the warm-hearted Border Collie from the 1995 blockbuster Babe. There was nary a dry eye in the theater as she watched her pups sold. Disney’s 101 Dalmations left an audience crying (as Cruella), “I want those puppies!” Even television commercials tug at our heart-strings. Dinky started a Chihuahua craze the world over as the spokes-dog for Taco Bell, while Spuds Mackenzie ushered in a new generation of Budweiser Beer drinkers. There is no doubt about it; the media has great influence over pet popularity, particularly those of the canine persuasion. In itself, this isn’t a terrible thing, but when it comes to choosing a pet for your family, Hollywood can spell disaster!

Just imagine a couple going to a movie featuring a cute child. On screen the child is humorous, attractive, and clever. It never gets into trouble, except when it is funny. Imagine the couple falling in love with this on-screen child, going so far as deciding to have a baby of their own, without taking any of the complications of child-rearing into consideration. They don’t expect to have any troubles with their child—they naturally expect it to resemble the child from the movie.

New Feature Added To [The Blog]

I have added to the code in our sidebar and template that displays POSTS that were made here at PetLvr.com - [The Blog] one year ago in our archives .. now that there is a year’s worth of posts!

Actually, this entry is Post #1449 so we have averaged approximately 4.12 posts a day, or 120.75 posts per month.

According to my records, the next comment at this particular moment in history, will be Comment #4394 … although, readers tend to NOT leave comments here in this blog, as much as I hope there is some communication with our readers. I think there might be about 100-200 valid comments around these pages .. and the rest of the sequence of comment numbers were used when I received SPAM comments. I deleted these comments, and have installed two plugins to help beat these spam comments, but occassionally a few get through.

As for our “Time Capsule” of posted entries 1-year ago .. I have also included the code in our main template, and you will see the same posts lingering on and on after each day of entries in our blog. At this time, I’m not really sure if ALL of them will remain to be the same list of posts 1-year from the current date .. or, if they will remain and archive with the newer posts as time goes by. It’s hard to tell - without history prior to May 31, 2005.

It is May 31, 2005 and I’ve finally decided to add a Blog to our website. From my past experience of blogs, I can honestly say I have not been a fan of them. I can’t understand why people have them. I can’t understand why people read them. And I can’t understand why businesses would want to include them in their websites!

But, I have decided that it is now time to change the world as we know it. I will create not only the most unique Blog in the world, it will also be the most creative, funny and yet, informative Blog ever achieved in existence!
“First ze internet .. zen ze vorld!!

This week was a sad week for us. While we celebrate one year anniversary of this blog (and my blogging in general), there was a death in the family on Friday May 26, 2006 (my wife’s mother passed away). As such, I have yet to analyze how or what this blog has accomplished over the last year, or pieced together the statistics. I will try to do that later this month in my other blog .. 1-800-HART… I know that I might need a little update soon, but pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about blogging and this blog in particular, can be found in our “ABOUT” page, which can be accessed at the top left. In the meantime, I have one more day of duties and will be back full-time around the blogs on Friday - For Sure!

I started with this blog on May 31, 2005 using Blogger … the address was PetLvr.blogspot.com/ … but migrated to my own servers on July 8, 2005 to our current address. While it was mostly for our two Papillons and pets, I moved all the pictures out and kept the pet pictures separate in its own blog .. PapillonLvr.com - Blog.

I also started a few other sites, and also created my “quote” Business Blog “unquote” at 1-800-HART. It’s kind of a weird site, as I was using it as my personal blog and trying not to let my business client’s find out about it. (Oh! The irony!) It’s more for letting me give back to the world some of the stuff I know how to do well, and branch out from my off-line business to possible new online businesses. I’ve been fortunate, that my offline businesses has been keeping me quite busy, so sometimes that blog might seem all over the place. One thing is for sure .. I hope to get all my friggin bookmarks over under the HART’s Bookmarks Category! (lots of neat things .. check it out!)

Naturally, since my wedding and family website has been online since our marriage, I converted that site into a blog as well over at HARTandYVONNE.com, and made it even bigger than it ever was! There are almost 1100 pictures online (including 100% of our wedding pictures), and about 500 MB of video files (a lot from our wedding). We were married in a Medieval Themed wedding ceremony on August 31, 2002 - but, I hope to keep the site for everything we do personally together in our life, besides reminiscing of times gone past .. like, our major Condo renovations, our Vacations, and stuff like that!

This blog was created in the format of a “Group” Blog, meaning that I was hoping there would be continuous contributions of articles from co-contributors of content. It was going well in the early months, but pretty much after last summer of 2005, with the generally wide acceptance of wordpress, and blogging in general .. everybody and anybody could start their own blog. I just guess that it is not that appealing to co-write a blog anymore .. without asking .. “What’s in it for me?”.

I have always believed (having dogs all my life) .. that nobody knows everything about animals. If someone says they do - they’re lying! That was the basis of how this blog was built. I wanted an “Encyclopedia” type of database, where, besides the current blogging and discussions and mention of items in the news .. anybody can search our archives and look for information with ease. If you wanted to find information about stopping dogs from barking - I want you to find at least ten different ways and techniques and suggestions how to stop your dog from barking! Maybe one will help you find what you are looking for. Maybe not. There are a lot of articles posted in here that are free articles from guest writers, who genuinely want to help people and provide free information. They usually request that links back to their sites are done in the free articles, and I encourage you to click on them to further your quest for information about animals that you cannot find here at PetLvr.com.

I have tried to create a community growth spirit with this site, and I probably should advertise or promote these a little more, because .. well, not many people know that:

* Yes - you can send FREE Greeting E-Cards from here!
* Yes - You can upload pictures and toss it into our Pet Gallery!
* Yes - everybody is free to add ANY PET RELATED EVENT into our Pet Calendar for all to see!

On June 10, 1998, we rescued ZEUS (Zeussie the Pussy Cat) from the Winnipeg Humane Shelter. He truly acted like a king, true to his name … that is - king of our condominium. It is and always will be his domain. Here he is in his natural position, even though he is trying to kill me by lying in front of the stairway to trip me. Yvonne thinks it’s all in my head, but even today I am convinced that if I don’t change his litter on a timely basis, or feed him exactly before 6pm each day, the cat thinks of ways to get rid of me! Just look at those beady eyes, thinking of ways to do me in!

Nah .. Zeussie wouldn’t do that to me .. because he’s the greatest cat in the world!
