The Cutest Flickr Slideshow That You’ll Ever See!

And who would have thunk it - the slideshow is of my own pets!!

This week, I upgraded to the PRO flickr account and have been starting to upload various types of pictures to the internet, in my feeble attempt to try to move closer to living in the clouds.

It’s Friday .. our anniversary is this weekend, and we’re heading out to the cottage shortly for the long weekend. I hope you don’t mind a little slideshow of the cutest pets in the world .. our very own critters … Maxxie and Sophie (the papillons) and Zeussie Pussy Cat and friends!

Dog Breed Infatuations

Today I caught myself wondering why I’ve fallen in love with certain dog breeds and not others.

For example, I’m not a big fan of really small dogs (anything under 15 pounds). My wife loves small dogs. Apparently, so do a lot of other people. I, on the other hand, don’t. Though I do enjoy teasing my wife about her rats;-)

But for some reason, I personally can’t come to own a really tiny dog. And today, I caught myself wondering why.

The Buzz About Stings

Enjoying the Outdoors

I currently have three cats. Two of them, Jelly Belly and Skylar, like to occasionally go outside and lie around in the sun. They’re both altered males and both are getting on in years. Jelly is 12 and Skylar is 11, so neither of them wander out of the yard. Because of this, I let them go out to sit in the yard or on the back deck to soak up the sun. I don’t, however, let them stay outside if I’m not at home and I always bring them in before dark. My third cat is little 8 month old Sophia, a female hairless Sphynx. She cost more than a pretty penny, so she doesn’t go out unless I have her on a harness and leash.

OnSkylar e sunny spring day, Skylar wanted to go outside. I went out with him and while I was watering my garden, he rolled around in the grass, nibbling at the blades and purring his head off. He was sleeping in the grass when I went back inside, but after only a short time, he was at the glass patio doors wanting to come back in. That wasn’t like him. If I’d let him, he’d stay out all day.

For the Love of a Bulldog: An Interview with Royce Hong, and My Review of the IPEVO PoV Web Camera

Have you ever been on vacation, feeling homesick, and wanted, more than anything, to see your pet? Royce  Hong, CEO of the electronics company IPEVO, has. While traveling, Royce found himself missing his bulldog, Roy. That’s when inspiration struck. Royce designed the IPEVO PoV USB web camera so that he could continue to interact with Roy while away from home. Roy, a four-year-old English Bulldog, is seen below in a photo taken with the PoV web camera:

The Miracle Sheltie

This post was written by guest author Dave Stewart.

In 2000, I was living in a townhouse just outside of Baltimore; we had finally got a fence and I longed to get a dog. My wife, on the other hand, was not crazy about the idea. You see, she grew up in Jamaica and was not keen on having a dog or any other kind of animal living in the house. I had managed to persuade her into 4 cockatiels but anything beyond this was out of the question. We had three children at the time and 3 children and 4 cockatiels were quite enough. To make matters worse, we had tried a dog from the SPCA and he was a runner; that is to say. if the door opened, he ran and ran far, so he had to go back to the SPCA.

Growing up I had a sheltie. His name was Mickey and after getting married he stayed with my parents; he loved us all so this was okay with me, plus I couldn’t have pets in our apartment at the time. As a result, I tried to convince my wife to get a sheltie, but she was having none of it. Then I began my work. I had an old picture of Mickey and me, so I put it on my night stand. Not long after, I bought book about shelties. Then, my birthday rolled around and do you know what my mother sent me? A sheltie. on the front of a birthday card. That went on to the night stand too. I had quite a little sheltie display going, my wife called it a shrine.

Skylar’s Abscess

The Story

Not so long ago, one of my cats, Skylar, a nine year old altered smoke tabby, got into a fight with another cat. I don’t usually let Skylar or my other cats outside, but when the weather’s nice, I like to let them out to get a little sun. I do have harnesses and leashes, but there are times when I don’t have the time to spend walking with them around the yard. So, Skylar was out alone and although I never heard any of the usual cat howls and screams, I knew right away he’d been fighting when he came in. He had the telltale saliva in his fur around his neck and rear quarters.I immediately checked him over because I didn’t see any blood or obvious scratches.

He didn’t seem hurt, until I probed his left hip. He growled at me and pulled away. I quickly gave him a sponge bath to clean him up and gave him another once-over. Other than his tender back end, I couldn’t find a single wound. I did, however, have a sneaking suspicion that he’d been bitten. Being a smoke tabby, Skylar looks black, but the fur close to his skin is pure white. This meant that I should have been able to see any cuts or scratches, but as hard as I looked, I couldn’t find a single mark.

The Loss Of A Friend - Our Cat Colonel

I was thinking of pets that I have now and pets that I have loved and lost and I wanted to share a special story of how wonderful animals are, how heart wrenching their passing can be and how welcoming their comfort is. This story is one about my cat Colonel when we lost him due to the food recalls a year and a half ago.

The day we lost Colonel was a cold and miserable day in January. The year was only a few days old and somehow the magic left over from Christmas and all the promises of the new year ahead vanished as we gently lifted our small gray cat into the carrier.

What is Your Puppy’s Name?

I was out walking my dogs out back near the creek the other day, letting my dogs walk with me offleash, when they spotted another dog about their size in the horizon. Maxxie immediately started to head towards this ‘new dog’ to greet him to the neighborhood, which was nice .. and Sophie started barking.

I cross my legs when I'm contented Well .. the next thing you know, this other dog is just as much as a barkie dog as Sophie is, also offleash .. and then the next thing you know - me and the other owner and chasing our dogs, shouting their names, telling them to be quiet, and we were getting closer to each other as our dogs approached each other. Now, I didn’t have my camera, but if I were to pull a picture out of my archives .. the other dog would look similar to the image on the right. He was a small poodle, but looked like he was also half monkey!

Weddings And Your Pet

My wife and I married in a Medieval Themed Style wedding back in the summer of 2002. Our only Papillon dog (at the time), Maxxie, played a major part in it. It was an outdoor wedding and afterwards the event was under a huge tent outside on a venue with about 10 acres. About 85 people showed up in costumes, but it was 32c that day and a good handful took their costume out before the dinner and party started, but fortunately we rallied them out to the road and took a great picture of them all!

Anyway, Maxxie was a big part of our wedding. He was there, “all dressed up” (wearing a tie), and was let loose the entire venue. He is a social monger and enjoyed greeting all the people and having free reigns to go where ever he pleased, although he usually stayed close to us. During the actual handfasting/wedding ceremony we did lock him up in the location’s house and once again during dinner (health regulations required we do this while we were eating), but for the most part he was on his own and just like any other guest, allowed to roam free and enjoy the festivities!
