Why Is Your Cat Scratching And Biting You?

Why Is Your Cat Scratching And Biting You?

Why Is Your Cat Scratching And Biting You?

One minute your cat is playing with you or purring as you pet him. The next minute he’s trying to bit or scratch you. Cat owners sometimes have difficulty understanding why their cats, who seem to be friendly and content one minute, may suddenly bite and scratch them the next. But aggressive behavior is part of their normal behavioral. Aggressive cats can be dangerous, however, with a little training cats can stop this behavior. But first we need to understand what their aggression is all about.

Fur Color Linked to Dog Personality

Fur Color Linked to Dog Personality

Dec. 13, 2006 — The color of a dog’s fur may seem to be just a whim of nature and genetics that reveals little about the dog. But a new study claims that coat color for at least one breed, the English cocker spaniel, reflects a pooch’s personality.

Prior research has suggested that fur color is also linked to behavior in labrador retrievers, while the type of fur — in this case, wiry or long — may indicate temperament in miniature dachshunds. Wiry-haired mini dachshunds are often more feisty than their mellower, long-haired cousins.

Dog Dominance Behavior - Dog Park Havoc

Dog Dominance Behavior - Dog Park Havoc

By Rena Murray

Dog parks should be delightful places where dogs and their owners can socialize, relax, and play games that their species enjoy, not hotbeds of aggression dog dominance and other bad dog instinctive behavior. Instead, though, the dog park becomes a war zone for many dogs and their owners, an apparent show of the machismo of dog dominance behavior. Dog walkers bring anxious, over-excited, and nervous dogs to the park, usually full of pent-up energy and without prior exercise. Then they let them off leash to run and mix with other dogs at the park. They usually do not know or consider the attitude the dog brings there, if he will cause or attract trouble. Then they often become preoccupied chatting with people they see or on the cell phone… until trouble erupts!

The problem is that the doggie newcomer to the park is now left with the responsibility of finding both psychological challenge and physical release for himself. His choice ways are not always good …

Give Your Pets A Lift With High-tech Designs For Doggy Dining

Give Your Pets A Lift With High-tech Designs For Doggy Dining

By Dean Berenbaum

Most people feed their pets on the floor, from a plastic or maybe metal bowl. Until recently, no one questioned this; it is not only the norm, it has always been pretty much the only option. New designs are emerging, however, that are a combination of new thinking in artistic design and product engineering. Pet owners are now demanding the same lifestyle upgrades for their pets that they insist upon for themselves, and creators of pet product are going high tech to serve their needs.

Ergonomics, the study of how best to design every-day items for comfort and safety, is now focusing on our pets. This has led to new designs for common pet products. Along with this, demand that pet products be attractive and compliment our home decor has gotten noticed by pet product manufacturers. The result is healthier, happier pets, and designs which are so refined that many are winning awards at architectural, interior, and industrial design competitions. And a favored place in many of the most elegant homes.

Global Positioning: Finding Your Lost Pet Quickly

By Steve Allison

It’s every pet owner’s nightmare- your dog is lost. Your dog is outside facing the elements and the dangers all alone. You don’t know where they are and you have no idea how to go about finding them.

Allergen-free kittens among many claims by Allerca’s founder

Questions trail local entrepreneur

…..

For allergic cat lovers, a San Diego company’s claim to have produced the world’s first kittens that are virtually free of allergy-producing proteins is nothing to sneeze at.

Allerca, a self-described biotechnology company, began soliciting cat fanciers last month to fork out an eye-watering minimum of $3,950 to “pre-purchase” one of its kittens. And even though Allerca says it will take up to two years to deliver the pets, the company predicts demand will soon reach 10,000 kittens a year.

Database to Analyze Horse Speak

June 13, 2006 — A new study could take the mystery out of a horse whisperer’s job.

The Equine Vocalization Project is compiling a database of horse talk and behavior in an attempt to correlate nuances in their whinnies with differences in their stress levels.

The information could help shed light on the communication styles of other equines, such as donkeys and zebras, and even improve how veterinarians, behaviorists, breeders or other animal handlers relate to horses.
