The Winnipeg Humane Society will be closed Canada Day July 1, 2008 .. here are this week’s ads!
Barney 156833

Barney came to the WHS in the beginning of April as a stray. He is a bit shy, but this place can be intimidating! He warms up to people after he gets to know you, and will give you kisses on your nose if you let him go at his own pace!! Our staff here has found him very easy to handle, so don’t let his being shy stop you from giving him that fantastic home he deserves! Barney’s adoption fee has been reduced as a long-term resident to only $39.50- this includes her spay, vet exam, pet insurance, ear tattoo and more! Barney is just waiting to give someone all of his love.
Sassy 154114

Sassy was brought in to the WHS very dirty and banged up from being outside, in the beginning of February. After spending some time in foster care to gain weight and get some much deserved TLC she is ready for adoption! While in foster she played well with another cat and a dog. She loves to be petted but doesn’t care to be a lap cat so much. Sassy’s adoption fee has been reduced as a long-term resident to only $39.50- this includes her spay, vet exam, pet insurance, ear tattoo and more!

Tye, 44958

Tye needs a lucky charm to get him into a loving, responsible and permanent home. This unlucky feline has been through the shelter a number of times through no fault of his own. He was last brought to us after being removed from a vacant home in the core area of downtown at the end of May; he was lucky to be alive, with barely any food and access only to dirty water. Tye is 10 years-old and needs a retirement home where he’ll be spoiled and loved like he’s never known before. Senior adoption fee of $40.00 includes his vet exam, pet insurance, 14-day health period and more! Help this boy find the love he deserves
Taboo, 154602

Taboo is a friendly, independent girl found in the dead of winter in the RM of Tache; she was in terrible shape and needed help! This poor ~2 year-old cat had frostbitten ears, was missing fur, had bloody ears due to bad earmite infestation, she was dehydrated and had an injured back foot. It was obvious that she’d been outside for sometime, fending for herself without anyone to look after her. Taboo has been with us since February- too long to be in a shelter! Taboo’s adoption fee has been reduced as a longterm resident to only $39.50- this includes her spay, vet exam, pet insurance, ear tattoo and more! She needs to learn what love is.

Sam, 149579

Sam is a very smart and affectionate dog who was surrendered as a puppy in October 2007- his owner was moving and needed a place to bring Sam, his mom and four siblings. Sam came down with a skin infection that was treated in foster care; while being treated in foster care, he became ill with Parvovirus and was successfully treated for this at the shelter. Sam continued his treatment for his skin infection and has since recovered well. You’d never guess he’s had such bad luck- he looks fantastic and is back in good health. This 8-month-old Labrador Retriever mix deserves a permanent address! Sam likes other dogs & cats, is good with kids (best for 8yrs+) and loves car rides!
Natasha & Petunia, 147968, 150166

Natasha and Petunia were found as stray kittens and fostered until they were able to come back for adoption. Now these lovely 9-month-old ladies need a home of their own- it would be great if we were able to adopt both of them together but they are available to adopt singly. These dog- and cat-friendly cats are available for adoption at Petcetera McPhillips Street - Garden City, 204.339-7135 and as longterm cats their adoption fee is $39.50 each!

Murphy, 153905

Goood Morning! As you can tell, I was woken up just prior to this photo being taken! I am a spunky and opinionated kitty who would do best in an adults-only home as I like to roughhouse. I like to chase moving things so might be a good choice as a mouser/rodent deterrent! I am a big boy who would benefit from losing some weight. Murphy was surrendered in January- he’s been with us for too long!- and deserves a permanent home of his very own. Adopt as a longterm cat, $39.50 fee.
Squeaky, 158049

Squeaky, 8 years old, and her pal Piper, ~4 years old, were brought at the end of April when their owner died; there were no relatives able to take them in. We’d really love to be able to keep these girls together as they are quite reliant on each other and have been through a lot. If you have extra room in your heart & home, consider Squeaky & Piper- they deserve a great life. Adopt as a pair, $80.00.

Smokey, 152740

Smokey is a very sweet and personable cat who has a deformed right front leg- an xray revealed he lacks a bone in his forearm. His uniqueness sets him apart from the pack- he truly is one in a million! Smokey was surrendered to us in January when his owner left town; he has previously lived with another cat. Smokey is an affectionate and cuddly boy who’s become a favorite of staff and volunteers. This terrific 3 ½ year old boy deserves a great home- adoption fee is reduced as a longterm cat to $39.50 and includes his vet exam, Rabies vaccine, spay/neuter, tattoo and more!
Toby, 158082

Toby is one of our mature cats available for adoption; we currently have ~15 cats aged 7 years+ who need good homes. Toby was surrendered to us in April when his owners moved out of the country; this handsome boy is 11 years old, FIV & FeLV negative and longing for a family again. Senior cat adoption fee is $40.00 and includes their spay/neuter, vet exam, pet insurance and more!

Dabbu & Jackie, 139981/139984

Dabbu & Jackie are a dynamic duo who cannot bear to be apart! This sweet couple was surrendered when their owner moved. They seem quite dependant on one another and if at all possible we’d like to keep them together- a very special adoption fee would apply. Dabbu, the Siberian Husky is ~2 ½ years old and Jackie, the Lab is about 4 years old. They seem okay with other dogs but require a home without cats or small animals. Both dogs are best suited to kids 12 years+ as they can be shy in new situations.
Oliver, 156835

Oliver is a shy boy who was found stray in the Maples alongside another kitty, who was lucky and adopted soon after arriving here. This super friendly and sociable handsome 1-year-old is great with other cats and has been neutered, vaccinated for Rabies and FIV/FeLV tested negative! Oliver is available for adoption at one of our nine Satellite Adoption Centres, Petcetera on Regent Avenue, 661-0790. Log onto www.winnipeghumanesociety.ca to see more cats and kittens available in-shelter and at our Satellite locations! Same adoption fees & services apply.

Pretty, 156323

Pretty is a quiet 3 year-old spayed female tortoiseshell from the Powerview, MB area. Her owner surrendered her and one of her kittens who was adopted long ago. Pretty likes other cats and dogs and is used to the country life where she could roam indoors and out- she may be a great pick if you’re looking for a nice country girl (but will adjust just fine to indoor city-life, too)! Adoption fee includes her spay, vaccine, pet insurance, ear tattoo and more!
Billy, 133170

Billy is an energetic and happy-go-lucky 1 ½ year-old Shepherd mix who was adopted from the shelter as a puppy. When he came in as a stray dog in April, despite our efforts to locate his owner, we were unsuccessful- Billy needs a new permanent home. Billy likes other dogs (if they can keep up with him!) and may do well with another dog in his home. He has a lot of potential but because he’s still learning good manners, he’s best suited to kids 12 years+. Billy is an active dog and will require a home/owner who can channel his energy and drive. Adoption fee includes his vet exam, vaccine, Rabies and more!

Jersey, 142461

Jersey is a playful and energetic dog who seems to like other dogs. This handsome ~1 year old dog will benefit from an experienced and confident owner who can set rules and be consistent. Jersey is an intelligent dog who is eager to learn new things; he needs someone with enough patience and experience to instill good manners and habits- he shows great potential! Jersey is best suited to kids 15 years+ and is best for a home without cats. Adoption fee includes his vaccine, vet exam, pet insurance and more!
Oudy, 157475

Poor Oudy was found in a Langside Street backlane struggling to give birth to her kittens! Unfortunately, she was suffering from a medical condition (as a result of not being spayed) that required veterinary intervention- an urgent spay was needed! Oudy has recovered well and is looking for a permanent home now. Oudy is a sweet cat who loves to purr- she did great on a pet visitation! Adoption fee includes her spay, tattoo, pet insurance and more!

Jessie, 156604

This beautiful 4-year-old spayed female was brought to the shelter on March 31st; we’re surprised that such a beautiful and friendly cat has yet to be adopted. Jessie is a healthy and sociable cat who tested negative for Feline Leukemia & FIV. The WHS has over 100 cats and kittens like Jessie who are awaiting good homes today; adoption fees include spay/neuter, ear tattoo, vaccine & more!
Misty, 155221 & Micky, 155218

Misty, 13 years old, and her pal Micky, 5 years old, both spayed females, were brought into the shelter February 28 as their owner was moving and couldn’t take them. Both girls did really well in their foster home and we’d really like to be able to keep them together if possible- a very special adoption fee applies for both cats. We have many paired (and single) cats of varying ages and background available for adoption!

Marmalade & Caroline, 155662/666

Marmalade & Caroline’s owner passed away and there was no one able to take them on, so they came to the WHS on March 9. These beautiful ~6 year old cats rely on each other for companionship and company- we would be very sad to break this ‘family’ up and are very optimistic someone will open their heart & home to both cats. A very special adoption fee applies- $80.00 for both cats and includes their vet exam, vaccine, pet insurance and more!
Shady, 133369

Shady may have been featured before but as our only longterm dog, we need to get this beautiful Norwegian Elkhound mix into a permanent home of her own! Shady is a really sweet and affectionate doggy who weighs in at about ~45lbs and stands just over knee-height at her shoulder. Shady likes to go for walks and is really great on her head collar. Shady is a smart, energetic and playful dog who will benefit from an active home to keep her busy & happy. Shady is 1 ½ years old and loves to play with other dogs- if they can keep up with her! Shady was adopted first as a puppy in late 2006, but has basically been in our care- through absolutely no fault of her own- since November 2007. Shady is a staff & volunteer favorite and we are puzzled as to why she’s been passed over! Shady has been with us for too long, and we would love to see her adopted to a loving owner/family one day very soon- she is too wonderful not be enjoyed! Adoption fee includes vet exam, vaccine, Rabies, heartworm test, pet insurance and more!
