I was thinking of pets that I have now and pets that I have loved and lost and I wanted to share a special story of how wonderful animals are, how heart wrenching their passing can be and how welcoming their comfort is. This story is one about my cat Colonel when we lost him due to the food recalls a year and a half ago.
The day we lost Colonel was a cold and miserable day in January. The year was only a few days old and somehow the magic left over from Christmas and all the promises of the new year ahead vanished as we gently lifted our small gray cat into the carrier.

You have probably seen hundreds of them sitting in small plastic cups in various pet stores and you may have had a few Betas of your own, each one swimming gently in a little tank that never seems big enough. I know i have had a few betas, mostly as a mom taking care of my kid’s beta.
One beta, a very feisty one that would flatten its face whenever I entered the room and try to fight with me, was the epitome of what I believed a beta or Siamese Fighting Fish should be. He was tough, bright red and with a little blue and a great fish with a lot of personality.
Unfortunately for him, he had too much fight and his short life ended with a horrible accident during cleaning that involved a net, a garbage disposal and a hysterical woman calling her husband at work because the fish had jumped into the garbage disposal. Needless to say, it took me a little while to get over being a fish murderer.

If you remember my introduction, you will recall that I have two cats. Both are kitty litter trained and although I know how to toilet train them, neither of them are. The main (and probably only) problem that I have with toilet training is the fact that I only have one bathroom.
When Lobo was a young kitten, about 8 months old, I began toilet training him. After I got about 2 weeks into the training, my husband started yelling at me about the fact that he had to move a container filled with kitty litter every time he wanted to use the washroom. Thus my attempts at toilet training ended and I only recommend this if you have two toilets so you can reserve one for the cat and one for all the people in the house. At least until the training is done.

Over the last few years, I have noticed the trend of purchasing pets from pet stores has gradually shifted to purchasing pets from breeders. More and more pet stores have moved away from selling larger pets, namely dogs and cats and have focused on small mammals, reptiles and fish.
I personally have always purchased small animals from pet stores. It never crossed my mind to look elsewhere for any small pet and I seemed inclined to suffer through the short life spans of several caged animals.

About 5 years ago, I found myself looking for a new puppy. My old dog Zodian, had passed away a year before and it had taken me over a year to adjust to the idea of having a new dog. I wasn’t 100% sure of the breed that I wanted and started looking into various breeds that I had always liked.

Hello to everyone here at PetLvr and the HART-Empire network. I am very happy to be contributing and hope that I can bring you many interesting posts that will keep you enthralled in the pet world at large.
I thought that I would introduce myself before I launch into one of my many ramblings. That is something that you will learn about me very quickly, I tend to ramble but somewhere in all that rambling, there is a message coming through and it isn’t always that I’m crazy.
