It may be true that a dog is a man’s best friend, but according to an online study from All About Pets, women were more knowledgeable when it came to answering questions on common misconceptions about pets. For example, do you know if goldfish have three-second memories? Are cats and dogs really born enemies?
All About Pets is a new social network for pet lovers, and you can take the quiz, especially if you’re a male pet owner, to find out how your pet knowledge measures up. This site has been referred to as the “Facebook for pet lovers.” Britain’s pet charity, The Blue Cross, created it so pet owners can meet other pet lovers and share tips on how to raise a healthy, happy pet.

Tinkerbell, Daisy and Harry are dogs commonly caught in the spotlight. They seem to have the best of lives, wearing jeweled collars and being photographed at their best. If you haven’t figured it out already, the owners of these dogs are Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Geri Halliwell, respectively.
These dogs as well as others have captured the media’s attention, and small breeds like the Chihuahuas and Shih-tzus are being referred to as “handbag dogs.” Celebrities are making smaller breeds more desirable to the general public. Although these breeds are compact, adorable and willing to be dressed in just about anything, before you buy one you need to consider if this type of dog is right for you.

Animals are the ninth-ranked cause of driver distraction according to the analysis presented in California’s new legislation, which attempts to eliminate driver distraction. Carting your pets around with you while you run errands might be a way of life for you and your pet, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, California is being proactive by making it illegal for drivers to allow pets on their lap while operating a motor vehicle. While this may seem harsh, it’s really about the safety of you, your pet and other drivers on the road.
It can be distracting when your pet is jumping back and forth from the back seat to the front seat. Maybe your dog sits on your lap and puts its head out the window and barks at the cars whizzing by. Either way, it’s not the safest situation. Regardless of whether you live in California, there are ways that you can protect you and your pet on your next car trip.

Spinal degeneration, disc disease and herniated discs are no longer preventing pets from having the ability to walk thanks to Eddie’s Wheels for Pets in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. When pets become disabled, they lose a quality of life just as humans do when they become disabled, and when surgery doesn’t work or isn’t an option, a custom wheelchair is the next best thing.
A Doberman named Buddha who had spinal degeneration and disc disease was the inspiration for Eddie’s Wheels for Pets. Ten-year-old Buddha took to his wheelchair quickly and even waded in the river with it on. Now that Buddha happily lived out his life, a Dachshund named Daisy is now the company’s mascot. She has five wheelchairs including one in pink.

The Missing Pets Bureau says that more than 2,500 dogs and 3,200 cats go missing every week. Some pets lose their way while others are actually stolen. Either way, it becomes difficult to locate where your pet went, but precautions, persistence and patience can help bring you back in touch with the missing pet in your life.
Recently, a cat named Mousie was reunited with his owner, Ira Bauert, after a year since his disappearance. Mousie went missing while Bauert was on holiday vacation. Diana Lewis of the North Devon Animal Ambulance found the cat, and she discovered that Mousie had been micro-chipped in Germany. Temporarily Mousie was nicknamed Herman the German, and he was put in isolation for four months before he could be sent home.

When you think about it, pet sports are similar to the sports held at the Olympics. For instance, flyball for dogs is like hurdling for the Olympians and freestyle for dogs can be likened to gymnastics. If Olympians can do it, so can their pets. So who are the pets behind the Olympians?
Petside has interviewed various Olympians and compiled profiles of their furry friends who act as road companions, trainers and playmates.

Ever wonder what your pets do when you leave them in charge of the house while you go on vacation? While you are lying on the beach soaking up the sun or cruising down a snow-capped mountain, your pet might be eating your furniture, peeing on your rug or worse not eating or drinking enough food every day. But pet owners now have a clever trick, which enables them to see their pet 24 hours a day with the help of a webcam.
Parting with your pet can leave you feeling worried, sad, nervous, regretful, etc., which doesn’t leave you much room to feel relaxed during your vacation. Instead of having a friend or family member watch your pet, you might have to resort to a kennel. Either way, you will still be thinking about how your baby is being treated.
