Common Signs That Your Guinea Pig Might Be Ill

Because guinea pigs are common prey for many larger species, they have evolved to hide pain and weakness. Making noise, limping and other signs of distress alert predators to a location. They tell the predator that a particular animal is easy and therefore, safe prey.

That makes it all the more important for guinea pig owners to keep a sharp eye out for any signs of illness.

Specialized Dog Training Needed For Service Dogs

And you thought normal dog training was difficult. Sit, stay, down, come, heel… all require weeks or more of dedicated trainer and dog effort to master. Now, consider the months or years needed to train a police, search and rescue, guide or other service dog.

Training these special animals starts with careful selection. It’s no accident that certain breeds - German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and others - tend to be selected. Grooming Tips for Pet Rabbits

Grooming your pet rabbit isn’t primarily to keep it looking good. Good grooming promotes good health. Rabbits groom themselves frequently and can accumulate hairballs that may cause intestinal problems. It also helps keep down the hair around the house, which surely helps your health by reducing your stress.

If they get something on their fur that needs to be removed - pine sap, dog feces, a household product - it’s best to spot-remove the material with water only. A little pet shampoo is acceptable, but should be diluted and used sparingly.

Get Your Horse Moving

cover2_blank.jpgYou’ve managed to make it up on top of your horse and boy, is it a long way down! Now, how do you get him to move? After all, you don’t want to make an animal this big mad when you are on his back. Surely you aren’t supposed to kick him, right?

Actually, yes, people do kick their horses to get them moving, but it is more like a gentle tap of the heel against the horse’s side than a true kick. You will also need to squeeze his sides and you may even need to gently tap him with a riding crop to signal that it is time for him to move faster or prepare to jump over an obstacle.

Socialization of German Shepherds

Socialization involves getting your dog familiar and comfortable with other dogs, pets and people in their environment. As natural pack animals it’s often easy to do, and sometimes even harder to keep them from interacting at inappropriate times.

Most dogs benefit from socialization. The people around them do too. But German Shepherds and a few other breeds are special cases. They’re often asked to perform special roles, such as police or guard dog, guide dog and other jobs. That means that socialization, while still useful, needs to be carried out much more carefully.
