I just wanted to give an extra shout-out and thanks to the guest writers who contributed articles to this blog while I was on vacation July 27th to August 13th this year .. Although there was much interest and registrations after my open call for guest writers .. there were only two takers.

In 2000, I was living in a townhouse just outside of Baltimore; we had finally got a fence and I longed to get a dog. My wife, on the other hand, was not crazy about the idea. You see, she grew up in Jamaica and was not keen on having a dog or any other kind of animal living in the house. I had managed to persuade her into 4 cockatiels but anything beyond this was out of the question. We had three children at the time and 3 children and 4 cockatiels were quite enough. To make matters worse, we had tried a dog from the SPCA and he was a runner; that is to say. if the door opened, he ran and ran far, so he had to go back to the SPCA.

Growing up I had a sheltie. His name was Mickey and after getting married he stayed with my parents; he loved us all so this was okay with me, plus I couldn’t have pets in our apartment at the time. As a result, I tried to convince my wife to get a sheltie, but she was having none of it. Then I began my work. I had an old picture of Mickey and me, so I put it on my night stand. Not long after, I bought book about shelties. Then, my birthday rolled around and do you know what my mother sent me? A sheltie. on the front of a birthday card. That went on to the night stand too. I had quite a little sheltie display going, my wife called it a shrine.

I just want to publicly thank Ruth, from the Happy Pet Stop blog, for helping me out last week and for Guest Blogging all week!

My schedule always seems to get exponentially busier ‘offline’ around the 20th and the last week of each month, but as an accountant and income tax preparer .. the months of April and June are the busiest for me! But, I am back now and regularly scheduled PetLvr’ishus programming will now continue!

Cat Owner Mourns Pet’s Death - Spreads Awareness About Feline Heartworms

COLUMBIA, S.C., March 1, 2007 ­– Harley Jones (also affectionately called “Baby Girl”) was a loving and shy indoor cat. She was born on May 1, 2005, under a porch in Columbia, S.C. Ashley Jones and her husband Jared brought her home to join their family, which included their five-year-old cat Dempsey, and three-year-old dog Bear.

The Joneses treated Harley and their other cat for fleas, and protected Bear from both fleas and heartworms. Unfortunately, they would learn the hard way that, without heartworm prevention, the disease could affect their felines as well.

If you are reading this through your favorite RSS feed reader .. you may not have noticed. Remember that “Timecapsule” plugin code I had? If you recall, after each post .. it was displaying all the posts made on this day 1-year ago. But, it was creating havoc with the posting of comments in this blog .. as readers’ comments were being attached with posts 1-year ago .. (not good!). So I removed the code.
