The shelter is closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We are open regular hours Easter Monday

Wanda, 91054

091054-wanda.JPG
Wanda is hoping she has better luck next time…. She was adopted as a kitten in 2004 and found as a stray in the Elmwood area in January. Wanda’s registered owner had given her away a couple of years ago, but didn’t know to whom. Wanda is a friendly, outgoing and happy ~4.5 year old cat who has been patiently waiting for a home for over 2 months- she needs an address of her own! As a longterm cat, her adoption fee has been reduced to $39.50 and includes her vet exam, spay, vaccine, Rabies, pet insurance & more!

Fella Roo, 121887

121887-fella-roo.JPG
Fella is a sweet and cuddly Border Collie mix who loves to go for car rides! This busy and active ~2 year old dog was brought to us when his owner found him to be too much work. Fella Roo is a great walker on leash, likes to play with other dogs and is very cuddly and affectionate. He seems good with cats! Fella is a busy dog and can be pushy sometimes, so he’s best for older kids. At ~50lbs he is full grown and requires an active owner to keep him busy & happy. His adoption fee includes his neuter, vet exam, vaccine, Rabies, pet insurance & more!

Thinking of an Easter bunny for someone you know this Easter? Think twice! Rabbits are too often acquired on a whim and end up surrendered to shelters nation-wide; they are the third most surrendered pet to North American shelters. If you want more information on rabbits as pets, visit us or log onto www.rabbit.org to get the information you need to make an informed decision. The WHS saw a 56% increase in the number of rabbits admitted between 2003 to 2007! If you’re unsure about being able to commit to a living creature who can live up to 10 years, this year say Make Mine Chocolate™!

Vaccinations - Are They Worth The Risk?

Like much else today, whether to give your dog vaccinations is a matter of some controversy. Getting objective information is difficult because there are so many advocates on both sides of the question. Some even sound reasonable. Those who might be concerned about the issue will want to do their own research to get as clear a view as possible.

What is indisputable is that prior to the development of vaccines, many breeds died of infectious diseases. After their development and widespread use, deaths due to viruses were reduced.

Dealing With Destructive Rabbit Behavior

Rabbits are cute as heck, everyone agrees. And it’s true. But rabbit owners know that their little friends have natural behaviors, some would say instincts, that can make them destructive.

Rabbits are no respecters of property, so you have to be vigilant. Letting them out of the cage to enjoy running around is important for their health and amusing for their owner. But left unsupervised, they’ll usually get into what the owner would call trouble pretty quickly. The rabbit would call it having fun.

Find Exotic Pets Online

By CS Swarens

Recent years have seen an increasing trend regarding the popularity of exotic pets online. Since most people are not free to travel the world in search of the perfect exotic pet, it will be beneficial for you to learn just how to find exotic pets on the internet. Fortunately, finding exotic pets online is not nearly as difficult as some people would make it out to be. However, it is not quite so simple as performing a Google search for “exotic pets online” either.

Unlike common domestic animals, there are often a great number of restrictions regarding the importing, sales and even in some instances, the ability to own exotic pets. Some animals that were previously considered to be exotic are not quite so mysterious, exotic or anything other than just another animal anymore.

Caring For Your German Shepherd’s Nails

Depending on where your German Shepherd walks the most, nail care may be needed often or only very rarely. Long walks on city sidewalks can slowly wear down a dog’s nails to an acceptable level. But if you live in the country, or the dog spends almost all its time in the house or the back yard, you may need to trim his nails about once a month.

As with any dog, it’s important to use the proper tools and technique. Dogs have a small blood vessel called a quick that runs from the foot out to about midway into the nail. If you nick that quick while cutting the nail it hurts the dog and produces blood. Keeping the nail trimmed, while avoiding injury requires some care and practice. Start conservatively.
