Field vs. Show – What’s the Difference?
By Geoffrey English
This past winter I attended a number of Sportsman Shows throughout the northeast where I performed numerous waterdog retrieving demonstrations, showing the versatility of the English springer spaniel and Labrador Retriever. What amazed me while speaking to the average outdoorsmen was not the fact that they were unaware of a spaniel or the Labrador Retrievers’ versatility, but rather that they were unaware that there was a difference between show and field gundogs.
During the show I was absolutely amazed at the number of avid outdoorsmen who had little, if any, understanding of the qualities that go into breeding world-class gundogs. Throughout the course of these sportsmen shows and meeting tens of thousands of avid outdoorsmen, I would venture to guess that better than 70% of the folks I met were unaware that such a difference existed. Ask those same individuals what gauge or shot size they would use to hunt a species of upland game or waterfowl and they could easily rattle off the pros and cons of each.

How to Identify a Neglected Cat
By Morgen Marshall
Many people think their cat’s behaviors are because the cat was abused or neglected. I want to clear this up for you. Abused cats are rare. Most cats are just wary of strangers. Bad behavior is usually because they were never taught correctly or played with aggressively. So, how can you identify an abused or neglected cat? Let’s look at what cat abuse and neglect look like and then we can talk about the cat’s responses:
Cat Abuse can be intentional or unintentional. Usually, unintentional abuse is called “neglect” and is addressed by humane societies all over the world. There are actually three levels of abuse. Neglect, Over-Discipline (over use of discipline tools) and Intentional Abuse. This article addresses the Neglect, which is the most benign form of abuse.

Buying a New Horse Trailer
By Fred Waters
There are certain things you should consider when buying a new horse trailer. After all, you want make sure that you’re getting a safe, quality trailer that meets the needs of your horse(s), as well as your own needs.
The first and foremost thing you should consider when shopping for a new horse trailer is your horse(s). Keep in mind that horses are claustrophobic by nature. Therefore, a trailer with plenty of room, light, and ventilation will create less stress on the horse. In turn, the horse will load more easily and will travel more comfortably. He will also be less likely to injure himself and will be less likely to suffer from stress-related health problems such as shipping fever, dehydration, and colic.

I will be testing new backgrounds for the next few days .. the old background was just a set color, and now I’m adding images. The FIRST is THIS one .. the NEXT will be THIS one.
Do I need a background? On one hand, less is more I think and that’s why this template and sidebar is more white than color … although I like the earth tones.

I removed our “Time Capsule” from the sidebar (since it’s duplicated between every post in here) and replaced it with the Recent Comments plugin. This will show the last 5-10 posts by commentors and a link in case you want to continue the conversation. Just prior to our shutdown and upgrade .. there was a comment from JanMarie ..

Pooches in Pictures; How Hollywood Influences the Dogs We Bring Home
By Emma Snow
No actor wants to share the stage with a dog, for he will undoubtedly be upstaged. It’s all but impossible to watch a dog movie without falling head over heels into puppy love. Consider Mom, the warm-hearted Border Collie from the 1995 blockbuster Babe. There was nary a dry eye in the theater as she watched her pups sold. Disney’s 101 Dalmations left an audience crying (as Cruella), “I want those puppies!†Even television commercials tug at our heart-strings. Dinky started a Chihuahua craze the world over as the spokes-dog for Taco Bell, while Spuds Mackenzie ushered in a new generation of Budweiser Beer drinkers. There is no doubt about it; the media has great influence over pet popularity, particularly those of the canine persuasion. In itself, this isn’t a terrible thing, but when it comes to choosing a pet for your family, Hollywood can spell disaster!
Just imagine a couple going to a movie featuring a cute child. On screen the child is humorous, attractive, and clever. It never gets into trouble, except when it is funny. Imagine the couple falling in love with this on-screen child, going so far as deciding to have a baby of their own, without taking any of the complications of child-rearing into consideration. They don’t expect to have any troubles with their child—they naturally expect it to resemble the child from the movie.

I know, I know … not the news you would normally “sneeze” at .. but, this was a big upgrade for me …
AND … it seems to be working! (KNOCK ON WOOD) Yaaaaay!
I had to drop 4 plugins, and upgrade 18 of them. There still may be some template modifications and updated codes for these upgraded plugins .. and I haven’t yet seem to fully test everything. I do know that my CRON jobs are now emailing me every 15 minutes so, until I get a chance to figure out what I did wrong there .. it looks like another 96 spam emails for me.
So - if you see anything unusual - please email me .. hart (at) PetLvr (dot) com

This wordpress blog is using an antique version 1.5.2 and I will be upgrading it to the latest 2.0.4 version tonight.
PetLvr.com - [The Blog] was my first blog ever created and has seem to have accumulated the most plugins installed.
Some plugins that are installed .. I don’t even use the plugin. If I can, I will be slim lining the new version and trying to do without it! Some plugins are installed that are unique to this blog and will create problems for me if it is not compatible with the new version. I know of a few plugs that were upgraded to the new version, but I’ve been using the old version.
