Inside Bay Area - Bay Area Living — Have pets, will still travel

THE HOLIDAYS certainly bring on the travel bug. Choosing to share your life with a pet doesn’t mean you are chained to your home. But before you make plans to board that plane, train or automobile, assess your situation and make arrangements that will be the best for you and your pet.

The most important decision, of course, is whether your pet will accompany you on your trip. If your dog or cat runs and hides when they see you take the kennel off the shelf in the garage, then traveling with them is probably not a good idea. Most of our companion animals are creatures of habit, and any little change in their routine or environment can be very stressful for them.
